Removing woodruff key from camshafts.
In Wayne's rebuild book, it mentions to use a small screwdriver to carefully remove (pry out) the woodruff keys from the camshafts. Maybe it is just me but I could not get them out at all. I eventually had to tap it out using a small screwdriver. How do you guys manage to get them out? Are they meant to be that tight? Will I have to apply force when I put it back together again? Cheers Jakes

They are tight sometimes. I tapped mine out as well. Check the woodruff key for small burs and dress is with a fine file. The camshaft is hardened. So its slot should be fine.

Ingo is right - you should be fine. Sometimes tight, sometimes looser - depends upon wear factors, I suppose...

set a flat screwdriver tip right in behind it, horizontally, and tap with a hammer. it will roll right out of the keyway. try not to drop it into the engine.

I had to use a set of channel lock pliers (wrapped with duct tape) to push my keys back into the cam. I used John Walker's method to remove them.

On bank 1,2,3 I had to beat it out with a punch after boogering it up with:
a small screwdriver needlenose pliers vice grips. The cam and shims survived but I had to get a new woodruff key. Not really a problem.

yes, large channel-locks for the install. don't forget to put the shims on first.
