alternator wiring?
I have a Valeo alternator in my 69 911E and it seems to have an internal regulator. My regulator is on the relay panel. The alternator does not have the terminals identified. can you help?

Can you post a picture of your alternator? A '69 would have had a Motorola or Bosch alternator originally, with an external regulator. I believe it was the Carreras that used the internal regulator.

What I have here is a 2.4 Mod S built by Henry at Supertec. I've put the panel in the engine compartment that has a voltage regulator. The alternator has a voltage regulator in it (50amp) and a later non compatible wire harness. I'm somewht stumped at the moment.

HBTDT there is a lot to consider. I put an SC motor in my '71, so I know it is a big job.
I don't think that alternator has a built in regulator. Can you post a picture of the fan housing showing the casting number. What ignition and distributor are you using? Points? Can you post a picture of the ignition including the distributor harness. That info will help us sort it out.

The black wire is to be taped off.
The red goes to the 6 mm, large post, The brown goes to the 5mm post 8mil nut Blue wire goes to the 5 mm stud. Voltage regulator on the wall is not used. You need to check the alignment of the fan to the crank0pulley to insure you have the correct housing. The correct housing has a 19mm backspace that the Alternator bolts to Bruce |

Bruce. Can you confirm that he has an internal regulated alternator? My GOOGle search lists it as a 55amp '70- '74.

Yes Verlo, and the black box is the on board regulator I just don’t have any experience with the OBR for the pre 75 housing.

When Porsche came out with the internal voltage regulators they issued a TSB on converting external regulators to internal ones. It's in this link.
Alternator w/ external regulator convert to internal regulator? I know this is for later cars but the conversion is very similar. |
