Engine update pic

Getting close now. Just waiting for a few parts from Pelican to arrive so I can set my timing and check valve to piston clearance.

I can't decide on all red, or to do the valve covers in black with the red shroud ( I love 2pac paint!)

And yes I know it's not a "prescribed yoke"

Cheers

I really like the all-red look--MHO. What kind of engine is it?

Fishcop 06-13-2004 10:36 PM

Yeah, I'm thinking all red now...

It's a 2.7 RS spec on webers...

YTNUKLR 06-13-2004 10:39 PM

Looks nice!

I used that same universal "yoke"- it worked fine.

Red, black, silver, some sort of combo, it just doesn't matter. This is your job and it should suit your taste. I think what you have done looks great. You choose the valve covers.
Here is one we did.

As for the yoke, if it works, use it. I don't think I would trust that yoke with a complete 930 engine (too heavy) There is a company that makes a Porsche adapter for this type of yoke. We bought one and it works well.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1087232159.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1087232191.jpg

Fishcop 06-14-2004 06:38 PM

Thanks Henry... now silver is looking good!

I found one of those adapters on the net, but I'm comfortable with the current yoke for an earlier engine.

Cheers

Note the sheet metal and machined valve covers on this one. For those of who missed it, this one's for a 914-6

Fishcop 06-15-2004 03:30 PM

That one looks excellent! That's probably very close to what I'll do I think.

Thanks

Here's the way mine turned out 2000 miles ago.

Love the fan! Polished and coated?

Wow! Those engines are beautiful. How in the world do you guys plan to keep them clean?

smestas 06-16-2004 12:24 AM

I'm just finishing my rebuild.

So I wanted to add my motor to the thread.

I like the red, that's probably the color I'll use. What's 2pac paint?

Yes it is. Lots of labor with Scotchbrite, Dremel buffing wheels and Simichrome polish.(6hrs. approx) I then clear coated it with Rustoleum clear. If I get chips, I can strip it with aerosol paint stripper and recoat it. Amazingly it hasn't chipped or yellowed.

I explained in a thread a while back that I left it uncoated and sitting waiting while I asembled the rest of the engine. It oxidized in just a few weeks. Not bad, but enough to haze the mirror finish with chalky oxidation.

Keeping mine from leaking oil and not driving it in rain. Also a hose washing from time to time. I then use compressed air to blow away water droplets.

It's leak free topside. I have one transmission leak from the shifter rod seal that must have been a bad new part. It leaks a drop of Swepco every other run.

The engine is dry below.

Don't you know!? It's rapping paint that got gunned down in Las Vegas, DUH!

KobaltBlau 06-16-2004 11:23 AM

I was waitin' for that.

David 06-16-2004 11:56 AM

I've seen some engines with the mustashe bar drilled out like the one in this thread and the one on Wayne's book. Has anyone seen a failure with this mod? Has anyone seen it on a turbo motor?
