hmm, what can i build?
I have a 75 2.7s engine with pulled studs and a 67 2.0 s engine case.
can i build the 2.0 engine with the 2.7 crank? what else could i use from the 2.7 engine? i was thinking of going with carbs, are the 2.7 cams ok for this or would i be better off using something else?

I'm going the same route, but using only my 2.0 '68 aluminum case and crankshaft. Everything else is 2.7S to make a 2.5 for my modified '68 RSR. I plan on using carbs for the time being. Already have all the body mods done, putting in a full cage and redoing the interior now.

Adomakin,
You have a great collection of stuff to build a wonderful ~250 hp street engine. You will find much information and help on this Forum. What is the condition of your 2.7 case? Pulled studs are repairable to better than new. What is your use for your 911? Since you have both, would you prefer carburetors or CIS? Carbs have the potential for greater performance. Are you willing to use high octane fuel? What is your access to 98+ octane petrol? For a nice 2.8S street engine: Use the 2.0 Aluminum case and apply all the current mods; oil squirters, oil bypass, larger cylinder spigots, etc. Use the 2.7 crank and rods. Use the 2.7 heads with twin plug modification. Use the ’67 carbs, intake manifolds, and air filter assembly. Install 36-37 mm venture. Use the ’67 exhaust system. Use the ’67S cams with the ’75 rockers, both refinished. Buy a new set of Mahle 92 mm RSR P&Cs. Buy a new 930 oil pump. Buy a 1.81:1 fan set-up. You should have a front cooler. Everything else is regular maintenance overhaul. You will need a new fuel pump and the twin plug electronics. How are your clutch and syncros? If you are content with something less, you can fit some JE pistons to your 90 mm cylinders and find some 911E cams. It is possible to repair your studs and do a normal maintenance overhaul. Do some searching on this Forum. There are many in the States who have done this and several on the Continent and in the UK. Best, Grady BTW, did you go to Silverstone today?

'68 RSR
Here's a couple of pics
Question for Grady...I'm going the same route with the 2.0 case and the 2.7 top end...but was planning on using the 2.0 crank and rods. Will this make any difference or will it effect the motor performance? We plan on weekend SCCA/PCA events and daily driving. Thanks for any tips

Dan,
Your first mission is to read the rules for all the classes and organizations you might go to; PCA DE, PCA Club Racing, SCCA Solo, SCCA Club Racing, POC, Vintage, local auto-X series, and more. A little research and planning at this stage will really help. You can build a really cool early 911 that can race with all of these organizations. You must understand the rules for all the different classes. Go to the events and talk to the other competitors. Most everyone will help you with good advice. Vet the responses you get on Pelican. I would encourage you to fit in the most popular classes. Much of the fun is in having others to compete with. I don’t like classes where you get a $5 trophy for being the only one in the class. A hard fought 5th place out of 20+ is really satisfying. The three main aspects of all this are: - The tinker factor, great DIY stuff. - The camaraderie of Porsche, look at THAT cool 911. - The testosterone-adrenalin flat out competition. You need to temper all this with the basic necessities of a daily. The cool thing about a 911 is these are not mutually exclusive. OK, back to engines. “There is no substitute for cubic inches.” Is what you are proposing an aluminum early case, 66 mm crank and rods with 90 mm P&C and the heads from a 2.7? That would work nicely with carbs, E or S cams, and pre-’75 exhaust. What exactly are the pieces you currently have. Tell us more about your willingness to have high compression and your high octane.fuel situation. It appears you have the original interior. Cool. There are some things you can do for lightweight without destroying the originality. You can always go extreme lightweight 911R or RS or RSR look. Tell us more. Best, Grady gradyclay@hotmail.com

Thanks for the info, Grady. I have purchased a complete set of 2.7S P&C (used, low mileage), matched heads, new 2.7S cams. We plan on using carbs, early dual exhaust, and upgrading the suspension for better handling.
I've been told the seats are NOT Porsche, but we plan on replacing those anyways. There will be a full cage installed once I strip the interior. This car was purchased with the intention of keeping it with the RSR look and continuing to build it as a street/track car. The wheels are aluminum Centerlines, 10x15 rear, 8x14 front. So far, we've only found four places of rust, all easily repaired with some 12x12 sheet metal...(fingers, toes, and eyes crossed for luck) The plans are to replace the door panels with the RSR look also. I'm willing to run high compression and high grade gas. I already run these in a "slightly modified" 69 Nova (350 ci w/470 hp...soon to be stroked and supercharged..."bigger is better" in the Nova) Anyways, that's the game plan for the car.
