Early oil pump with late pressure relief pistons
I just pulled a motor apart that had low oil pressure and had this combination. Would this contribute to a low pressure problem. Also, I have found quite a bit of metal shavings in the oil screen but all the bearings are still intact. Can I take the oil pump apart to check the internals?
Thanks

Did you check the pressure with a mechanical gauge? or was the low pressure just indicated on the dash gauge? My dash gauge reads low, between 0-5psi hot.. I checked with a mechanical gauge and the real oil pressure is 15psi at idle, hot engine..
