Copper or Yellow Metal Alloys in 2.7L Engine?
Does a 77, 911, 2.7L engine contain any copper or yellow metal alloys that the engine oil will come in contact with?

Off the top of my head the only yellow metal (not counting yellow zinc fasteners) I can think of is the distributor gear on the the crank shaft. I think that is brass.

If you're talking about gold in your strainer, you're done!
The only cooper or gold (yellow) colored metal in a 911 2.7 engine is the rod bearings (small end), distributor drive gear, and rod, main and intermediate shaft bearings. If you're seeing gold in your oil there is something very wrong.

Guys - great info. Thanks! The reason I am wondering is that in certain instances, dissimilar metals (copper or yellow alloys and ferris alloys)can create a galvanic corrosive situation. This process hastens when the acidity of the engine oil increases. As the acidity increase and corrosion ensues, deposits begin to form and oil performance additves get quickly consumed. I've been doing some research into it. The process happens at an exponential rate function. I am attempting to design an engine oil that will lessen this condition thus extending the life of the oil and reducing deposit build-up. I am planning on finishing out the lab tests then trying it in my engine. After the results are in, anyone who wants to try it, feel free to e-mail me and I will get you some at no charge. I just ask that you share the data with me. I will provided more specifics if you like - feel free to e-mail me.
