Change the pulley seal too?
Since my top end rebuild this past winter, I noticed that she's leaking from what it seems to be from the flywheel seal. So now I have confirmed that it is. Good news is everything I did worked flawlessly. Bad news is that the leak is from somewhere that I didn't even touch
![]() So my question is: "while I'm there", should I also consider changing the pulley seal as well? Its not leaking there right now. And, can I really change these seals without opening up the bottom end? Thanks...

These seals can be replaced without cracking the case. I wouldn't replace a non-leaking seal. I'm afraid of creating problems where they previously didn't exist.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the comments - exactly what I'm thinking. Will I create a new problem. I believe the pulley seal can be replaced without a complete engine drop as well? If so, I can wait till it leaks instead of for convenience right now.

Leave it be. If it ain't broke...............
And yes, in the future you could replace the nose seal without dropping the engine. Just remove the muffler and engine console (with the engine supported of course) and there's a good bit of room to get at the pulley. Just beware that the pulley nut is pretty tight. Big breaker bar or impact wrench is sometimes needed for removal.
