I have a 1969 E Mg, case, and this nut uses a 17mm. socket.

This nut looks different, it has what appears as a very very thin (I mean very thin) "washer like extrusion" built as an extension onto the nut itself.

So I can't figure if this needs a washer too?

Is this that odd-pitched fine nut that you are talking about? Someone may have swapped it out for another style at one time because they realized too late that the nut that you remove off of there is a very unique one that can typically only be ordered through Porsche...

Here's the nut in question. I did a web search and some are automotive "lock". I have no way of knowing about this one. It threads on perfectly. That is not a washer on the top, it's part of the nut itself.

I did buy a spring washer just in case, but the Haynes says standard washer for my year.
