Alternators and Fans

I am building a 2.7 for a friend. We thought it would be a good idea to upgrade his alternator from a 55 amp to a 70 amp alternator. Now my for the problem. The 70 amp alternator is longer than the 55 amp. That means the fan sticks out proud of the fan housing by about 3/8".

I have three housings and fans.
1. 11 blade assembly from an early (1967) 2.0
2. 5 Blade assembly from a 2.7
3. 11 blade mystery assembly part number ends with 5R

What I have noticed is the 2.0 fan is slightly larger in diameter than the others which are the same diameter. The fan housings all seem to be the same depths.

What can I do to use the 70 amp alternator? Replace a fan? A housing? Machine something?

Thanks,
neilca
