			The recent motor upgrade posts have sparked my interest. My -84 targa was recently repainted and so I need to start thinking about the next project. What's the best bang for the buck 3.2 upgrade? I have seen posts referring to upgrades all the way up to a 3.7 with a 10.5:1 3.4 being basically a piston swap; c2 cams are probably a good idea too?  
		
	
		
	
			
				What would the appx. parts cost for a 3.4 upgrade be? I noticed Pelican has the piston set for ~$840. What kind of price should I expect to get for the original parts assuming decent condition? Then again I should probably leave this car for the street, get a roller and drop in a 3.6 varioram motor for a track/de beast. jtl  |

			A 3.2 to 3.4 upgrade involves changing from the stock 95mm P&C to 98mm - so you will need cylinders as well. If you want to run 10.5:1 you'll need to twin plug it. It's a fun project (BTDT) but not cost effective compared to a 3.6 swap.

			Chris speaks the truth (as usual)... the additional thing that can be said about the upgrade vs. swap is that the upgraded/rebuilt engine is now 'fresh'. 
		
	
		
	
			
			
		
		
		
		
		
			There are folks (EBS for one) that will bore out your cylinders and replate them. I seem to rcall a $2k ish price for that work and new pistons. figure a cam regrind $500+... valve work while you're in there $500+... twin plugging $??? et cetera I suspect that this will be the route that I will go at some point if my 3.2 gets tired. I think the big question will be whether or not to twin plug since its going to be another couple thousand.... and then the PMO's for $3k...    wait a second... thats starting to add up.  ![]() -Bernie

			I don't know if spending that kind of dough on street car, especially a targa, is wise. If you decide to do all that then you prolly wanna get the exhaust, suspension, brakes, cage etc. We are now talking about a track car?!  
		
	
		
	
			
			
		
		
		
		
		
		
		
	
	My plan B is starting to sound more appealing. Start with a widebody roller add a 3.6 motor and some other goodies. I know some guys on this list have done this. Would it be reasonable to assume this project could be done for ~$15-20k? jtl  |
