Difference in Cam Towers/Carrea 3.2 to SC 3.0

What's the difference in the Carrea 3.2 4 Bearing cam towers compared to the 3.0 SC Cam Towers? Are they better?

I think they are the same. I've got both kinds kicking around the shop so I can look if you need me to.

Chris,

Would you please check. I'm trying to purchase a set and I need to make sure they will fit on my 3.0 SC Case.

Thanks.

Scott,
According to the PET, they have the same part number for the housing. I'm away from the shop this afternoon but I'll compare them side by side tomorrow.
-Chris
EDIT: If you have your old SC towers, the differences (if any) would be limited to things you can unscrew from your old cam towers and transfer to the Carrera ones.

Hey Chris,

My 3.0 is still in my car and I've got other plans for it. (VW BUS) I have been buying parts to build another 3.0/3.2 engine from scratch. So I can't check to see if they are the same or not.

If you get the chance, in the next day or so, just take a look and I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Scott

Does anybody else know if there is any difference? If somebody knows for sure, you can save Chris some time looking around in his shop.

Thanks.

I am pretty sure (98%) that they are the same.

The guy says that it is from a Carrea 3.2 and has four bearings and that these are more desirable than the three bearings. I'm building up a 3.0/3.2 and don't know the difference. First timer with the help from everybody on this BBS and Wayne's book.

I checked this morning. The 3.0 cam towers I have have a different casting number than the 3.2 but I couldn't seen any differences. Unfortunately, the 3.0 cam towers I have were completely disassembled before I got them and I can't find the components/fittings.
I know I've run a much older (901 part #) cam tower in a 3.2 before so I'm pretty sure that the 3.0 and 3.2 are interchangable.

The 3.0 and 3.2 camshaft carriers both take the late style "4 bearing" cams. They will interchange.
Most 3.0 engines used the nut style cam and 3.2 used the bolt style. Both cams fit either housing.
