Torch on a Mag case safe??
In the post below regarding removal of headstuds, heat seems to be the key. I have some studs that need removal in my mag case, but am reluctant to use my propane torch for fear of a magnesium flameshow in my garage. Is it really safe to put a torch to these things, or were those below referring to aluminum cases??

hell yeah! propane is pretty much worthless though. not hot enough. oxy/acetylene with a large, medium force flame and keep it moving. never lit one off yet.

Bill, I have your studs! I didn't forget about you. Please email me @ YTNUKLR@aol.com with your address. BUT, I only have 23 so you will need to heat up the case to pull one. The case is so large that it acts like a heatsink; all of it has to be at the temp of the propane torch to ignite... Mag ignites around 700* Fahrenheit, much hotter than an oxy/ace torch could get it...

ok, good info. I'll shoot you my address Scott, didn't want to keep bugging you all the time. I should be capable of removing one without screwing it up, so that should work good.

I used a standard Sears torch with MAP gas. It took a couple of minutes -- but no issues.

propane and oxy are ,is a nice set up and dose most all things
