Case Markings

I just bought a case. It has 3R on one case and 2R on the other half. On the top of the case are matching 499 numbers on the same lugs. Are these cases meant to be together?

Thanks,
neilca

Thanks Henry,

I thought it was weird also that the 3R case didn't have piston squirters. I guess this is a transitional case between the 2 and 3 R production run.
