A bit of an update.
Pulled all 24 studs out last night using a Snapon tool and large wrench. All came out easy using no heat.
Working with my shop to get parts ordered....issue.... Pelican part prices are a bit too close to his cost. This is causing some decision making to be done. I don't want to excecise the shop for no gain.

All in all things still seem to be going fine....but I haven't got to any hard parts yet I think.

Give you a tip dude. Automotive products are typically marked up a mininum of 3X to 5X. That means the $100 part you buy may have cost the supplier $20 to $33 dollars. Thats just what it is. Pelican like others can set their price at anything they feel comfortable with, in any case its no concern or ours, our only concern is what we can get it for.

And if the "man" gets big enough he can even buy stuff at the same price IMC does and they are the ones that sell the stuff at the $20 level and make a lot of money.

By the way this is markup is totally in line with many many other products of any kind so Pelican is not ripping anyone off. He may in fact be offering us a bargain with what the competion offers, thats all that really matters.

I once brought up cost of some items, eg oil filters, which are marked up from as little as $2 to over $15, but after selling some on E bay for as little as $3 I started to see the light, ie you can't maintain any business on nothing in return. Which is your point, I assume. I suspect Wayne and your shop can watch out for themselvesf. They may have bought up a bunch of inventory from someone else going south and is passing along the bargain, something like Trader Joes does.

Bottom line, exercise the heck out of all of them, make them earn their money.

OK, here is a bit of an update....
Ted found one of the intake valves had play like "you could drive a truck through there" this is good because it is probably the cause of the ticking noise I've been looking for for 4 years. Either the last person to rebuild this motor did a bad job or the factory did not a great job. I find this more as I measure things I run into.

FYI - the EBS people seem very nice you might give them the chance to quote parts or services.

The process things I plan to do.....Dykem the cam to rockers, check deck height, check flatness of top of cylinders, check flatness of cam towers, check valve to piston clearance....I think there is one more but I forgot. Senior moment. Of course time the cams.

So I'm feeling good right now. Cams are back from John and I'm probalby going to put the large bulk of the parts on order tomorrow.

-Henry
