Thanks Chad. Alan does do great work. Cant wait to get it back and in the car. With the new gearing and HP and Torque, this thing should be a beast. Looking forward to it. THe Pauter Rods are sweet. It will be interesting to see the difference between my motor and my fathers. I had so many other things done to it inside then he did...And I thought his was fast.

He actually uses an pneumatic air brush and then parts washer, and repeats.....I never have seen a guy be so meticulous about his work. It takes him some time to do that. Wait till you see your trans all cleaned up to.

Cool. He is doing the same Trans mounts on mine like he did on yours.
Can't wait to get this thing back in the car.

Motor
Thanks Mark. Yours looks great too.
I am thinking of dec 13 with you or University of VARA. They are doing annual tech there as well. So I could break in the motor and get the car teched for next season. If I cant go those dates then february 2 or 9th with JP and the rest of the Plavan gang at willow. I just installed my MSD Box and coil as well. What is your rev limit set at?

I have a 7700 rpm module in (actually cuts off a little over 7600) With those cams you do not make much HP over 7500.... it flattens out on the dyno. Might as well save the bearings.

I have mine at 7800. Since I went with the Pauter rods I have decided to set it a bit higher. I will use the 8K chip at Cal Speedway.
I wonder how accurate the pills are? If you are running two boxes both with 8000 chips in them. Is it a bad thing if one kicks in before the other?

You, too, can get your cases this clean. A $10 blasting gun, your compressor (even if far from industrial capacity), and several large bags of baking soda from Costco or the like. Do it outdoors, and wash the (warning) very considerable residue away. I did get rid of most of the larger bits on my tranny case with the traditional brushing and poking and brake cleaning fluids, but this got things out of corners and removed the seemingly permanent stains.
This stuff is so benign it doesn't even hurt your gloveless fingers when you blast them (at least with my relatively low pressure/CFM setup). Of course, if you have a better setup you can make less mess. I am trying to see if I can make a large cardboard box, some visqueen, duct tape, big rubber gloves, and a beat up shop vac reduce the mess so I can do this indoors on smaller parts - heads, cam carriers, cylinders, carbs. I don't know what baking soda does to sod, but it didn't seem to kill mine off after a good squirting of water. Walt Fricke |
