Which TDC when installing distributor?

Hi all,

I've completed the cam timing step in my rebuild. But now I am not sure which Z1 is the correct one to be used for installing the distributor.

I would assume that it would be at the Z1 where both cyl 1 intake and exhaust valves are completed closed. Not the one where you set the "intake valve stroke in overlapping TDC with .1mm valve clearance" right?

thanks,
anthony

You set the distributor to point to #1 at the TDC that has both valves on #1 with .1mm clearance. That clearance is there because the rocker isn't pushing the valve i.e. the valve is completely closed.

I have only set the cam timing on cyl 1 and 4 intake, and have not adjusted the valves yet.

I am trying to figure cyl 1 TDC to begin adjusting the vales and installing the distributor. What is tripping me up is there are 2 Z1 positions out there, one for cyl 1 TDC and the other is for cyl 4 TDC. And I am trying to figure out which is which.

thanks,
anthony

I *think* I understand what you're saying. The TDC that you want (#1) is the one when both cams have the writing on them end right-side-up.
(The writing on the cams will be up-side-down at TDC for #4.)
Does that help?
