To 3.2, 3.4 or 3.6?
RDane has his hot rodded 3.4 for sale, he lives about 20 mins from me and the gears in my head are turning...
How much labor and parts will it take to swap my 3.2 with his 3.4? I have a G50 Transmission, do i need to make any mods to make them fit? I figure that it will cost me about $7k net to do the swap. Buy Dane's 3.4 $10.5 Sell my 3.2 $5.5 Guesstimate Labor & Parts for swap $2000 Net $7k My 100k 3.2 is running super strong, no leaks, low oil consumption, nada problems, 202 RWHP. Should i spend that $7k to mod my 3.2? Double up and get a 3.6? Just leave well enough alone and wait till my 3.2 smokes to do something?

I would never dump Motronic to install CIS. But that is me

Alf - I just finished doing all these confounded dollar configurations last week - some of which involved Dane's motor as well - (funny, huh? Dane's motor seems to get around more than a Catholic schoolgirl hanging out with a bunch of public school metal shop stoners...)
...anyway... $2K to r&r a complex motor with a simpler one. Uh-uh. I got quotes to do a 3.2 install in place of my 3.0 for as low as $600. Shop around. I think you're way overpricing the labor. Of course, I'm not sure what's involved with the G50 and Dane's 3.4 - maybe you'll want to pick up a late 915 and sell off the G50 - it'll be lighter and still withstand the torque produced by the 3.4. Ummm...Dane has told me his 3.4 will out-pull 3.6s. It also has 33 more hp than a Euro 3.2 - that says something regardless of the Motronic vs. CIS debate. Also, Dane's motor is BRAND NEW. That says a lot! The 3.0 to 3.2 is plug and play in most cases. I would think in most cases of plugging in a bigger 3.0 (3.4 in this case) in place of a 3.2, would be as easy...maybe easier. As for 3.6 -- now you're talking labor , my friend and a lot of extra parts not to mention an install kit from someone like Steve Timmons. As for your 3.2...hmmm...let me ask my wife...again. ![]() |

The G50 will bolt right up, I think 600-1000 in labour to do it.

Doesn't want/need a 3.6L

My motor makes ALOT more power than his (on 91 octane to boot), and can tell you that I don't believe I would be pulling an in-tune 3.6L in a comparable 2,600+ chassis. 964's and 993's are not much of a problem for me either, but they're also quite a bit heavier and that dulls their acceleration a bit. Compare apples and apples. Not to his say his motor isn't nice and wouldn't be a significant upgrade over a 3.0L or a 3.2L, but there is NO WAY it would pull a 3.6L in a car with similar weight. I have a friend with a somewhat lightweight (relatively speaking of course) 2,400 lb Carrera with a Euro 3.2L motor, and he's not that far behind me even though I have approx 50 horsepower on him. He's got a 300 lb. advantage on me that helps balance out the horsepower deficit. ![]() Here's my .02 even if you didn't ask for it: Dane's motor would be a great motor for an SC that uses CIS. But for a 3.2L Motronic, stick with your Motronic and build yourself a Euro 3.2L with some bolt-ons or a 3.4L single-plug from your core for $8K-$10K if doing it yourself or with help from friends. Or, simply spend the extra money and do a 3.6L conversion for better power, torque and probably reliability all things being equal. Flame suit on! Fire away! ![]() Ralph P.S. - This is not a slight to Dane, as there is a good chance that his statement may have been misunderstood and taken out of context. |

no matter how good, how new, that 3.4 is.... spending 7K to gain 30hp just doesn't make sense....
