which 66mm crank to use?

...if building a 2.8 with my Carrera 3.0 case? I am seeing both counterweighted and non-counterweighted 66mm crankshafts available...

also, I need a confirmation on the use of my existing Carrera 3.0 rods with a 66mm crank (or do I need earlier rods?)

TIA,

Yes, you need early rods.

Yes, as stated above, you want the counterweighted E or S crank. You should also use the 2.2 rods, which are beefier. Your reciprocating mass is higher with these larger pistons.

The 2.0 rods are lighter, and ARP rod bolts are available for them, which makes them desiraeable for smaller displacement short-stroke motors, but for your 2.8, the beefier 2.2 rods are the smarter choice. The Factory rod bolts are the only ones available for the 2.2 rods, but they are plenty strong.

so definitely the 2.2 rods over the early 3.0 930 rods, correct?

Are the 66mm crank "bolt in" in a 3.0 case?

Magnus,

Only the 3.0 Carrera or the 3.0 turbo cases are a bolt in application.

Keith-
Any of trhe rods for 2.4 or larger motors have longer strokes, but the same deck height, and the same piston pin height. As a result, they are shorter. Also, the size of the big end changed (both wider and smaller in diameter, if memory serves). So, later rods are not going to work.
