Question Rod-bolt Nuts, XZN (triple-sqr) vs 12point (double hex)

Maybe I'm being too anal here, but I notice that some Rod-bolt Nuts are XZN-standard (triple-square) and NOT standard 12point (double hex).

I found that a SAE wrench can fit, pretty well on one of these XZN types (see example below) ...and thats likely what I'll use) But, I still want to know who in the hell sells the XZN wrenches. (the XZN drive bits are all over the place . . . anything "female" seems to be impossible to find)

Edit: Nevermind

SAE on a XZN triple square looks like this. . .just contacts the ends:

Some of the little tool stores sell these odd tools and there's always the Snap-On truck. I've gotten torx female sockets and the 12 point male sockets that I think are like what you're talking about at a tool store in Houston. They sell a lot of cheap stuff but they also cheap or good automotive specific tools. And they're open til noon on Sunday, that's how I found them in the first place.

Proper 12 point metric sockets are readily available up here. Let me know if you want/need me to pick some up for you and drop them in the mail.

Thanks guys.

I found the sharpest 12pnt I had (they vary a lot) and pulled them off w/o incident.

Then on closer examination of the nut, I find that it is just simple 12pnt . .. not a XZN standard as i had thought. --D'oh! (sound of kicking myself for over complicating things) . . .damn engineer schooling.

What are you doing messing with rod bolts Island? Come on, fess up!

Oh, I know...your rebuilding a 3.2 motor to replace that tired old 3.0 CIS mill...makes perfect sense.
