Question - RPM "Pills" for MDS System

I recently ordered the MSD 6AL system with two of the blaster coils for my 3.0 twin plug RSR clone motor. Our host had the RPM "pills" on back order with no delivery date.

My questions are:

1. Are the RPM pills necessary to make the system operational? I understand that they control the rev limit. But will the system provide spark to the motor without the pills?

2. Can anyone recommend another source for the pills with shorter delivery lead-time?

I think that it depends a lot on what rev limit you want to put in. If it's a round ,000 I think that they may come with the MSD-6AL.

I'm looking for a rev limit around 7000-7200.

Does anyone know if the system comes with a built-in rev limit that is modified by the "pills"?

Tom;
I've got an MSD-6 in my '69E and I just used the standard 7000 RPM pill that came with it. I'll have to check which version of MSD it is. What sort of car do you have?

I believe my MSD 6AL came with a series of pills, but I don't remember the ranges. I can check when I get home, if you like.

The MSD stuff is available everywhere. Try Summit racing.

The "pill" is merely a resistor in a two-pin package.

If I were using a 6AL I'd buy their adjustable rev-limiter- it has discrete steps so you can dial in a lower limit for rain, practice, valet, etc.
