Help! Have I killed My Engine?

Sorry for the length of this post but please bear with me!

The other day I had my car on the drive on axle stands while doing the shock's it had to stay like this overnight while I got the parts next day when I returned home with the parts after work the next evening it hd rained really heavy so I quikly fitted the shocks to get the car back in the garage! after fitting the shock I kame to start the car the engine turned for about half a second then stopped!

I realised instantly what had happend, I had left the air filter off the engine and the intake stacks on 1 and 3 of my MFI engine had filled with water. I removed the spark plugs from these cylinders turned the engine over to drain the water and replaced the spark plugs and started the car it took considerably longer than normal but eventually it started and seemed to run fine I let it warm up to 180 and left it idleing till the exhurst stopped steaming then drove it into the garage where it sat for 2 days untill I got It out today!

After replacing the rear shocks today I attempted to take it for a drive round the block I pulled out of my drive and set off, the engine had no power and just popped and spluttered between 1500 and 3000 rpm I had to slip the clutch to get it moving. The popping problem I had before when my engine was cold now seems to be when the engine is warm as well the engine just dose not seem to want to run between 1000 and 3000 rpm after this it seems ok! however when the engine is warm it starts up instantly and idles just fine, howver this problem seems to be getting progressivly worse and when putting my car away in the garage half an hour ago it woudnt keep running in the end I had to push it into the garage!

My gut instinct on this problem is that its a fulling issue or maybe I got water in some of the electrics I checked the dizzy that seems dry, however I carnt get the worrying feeling out of my mind that I have seriously damaged the inside of the engine!

Advice Please!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the engine is OK from your description you may still have some water/condensation in the distributor.

Pull the cap and rotor off and use LIGHT air pressure to clean. Pay close attention to the cap inside for condensation and either wipe or use air to remove.

Just Compression tested engine all cylinders are within 5% of each other and compression is good! Must be electrical! Must say I was worried for a bit I forgot to open throttle when compression testing, the first cylinder I tried only had 6bar when it had 11.5 3 month ago!

Distributor was dry though and I dont have points anymore to get damp! will leave it overnight now see if it dries out anymore now its been warmed up again!

Ok Ive just had another play with my engine, no signs of any water left anywhere car seems to be sparking ok, however it took ages to start when it started it idled fine but as soon as you gave it any gas it just popped and splitted gradually getting worse as I increased the throttle untill it was too much and it died!

Seems to me its getting starved of fuel therfore the increase in throttle is just making it leaner and leaner untill it cuts it! This is confusing as earlier in the day it ran fine when the revs were up past 3k so if it was a fuel deliver problem Y would it just be at mid range?

I was thinking maybee the fuel cut off solonoid on front of mfi is screwed and shutting fuel off but would it even run if this was closed off and also this wouldnt fit in with the it been ok at high rpm stuff!

What if my electric fuel pump was palying up I can here it running but maybe its not pumping enough gas to sustain it whe demand is increased?

Im confused that Efi upgrade is looking an ever better idea!

Ok Problem solved just had all my MFI pump off and seems like when I was fixing an oil leak from my MFI pump the otherday I over did it with the geasket seal and some had got onto the rack preventing it from opening! What an idiot! Just gave the entire pump a good clean out and got it all back together the throttle responce seems better than ever!

WOW! See.........It was OK after all. It's never really a f*ck up if you catch the problem before it gets out of hand.

Speaking of hands................... a good technicians' saying................" If you have a 'new' problem check the last place you had your hands" -If not there start re-tracing prior hands locals. It works!
