Question Replacing Intermediate shaft sprockets?

Ok, How do these come off?

Trying to remove the old cam chain sprockets from the intermediate shaft.Removed the snap rings, tried a small puller.....NOTHING!Will heating them up help?
Also, end of inter. shaft that shows @ front of block seems to have an aluminum plug w/ about 10mm deep threaded hole 6x1.0 thread I think? Does this seal oil in @ this end?

Anyone know how to do this?

Chris

I just use a gear puller (with an impact gun) to take them off (cold) but heat would make things easier.
Yes that is an aluminum plug. Remove it and clean the shaft out.

I run them over to my mechanic where there is a hydraulic press, takes 5 mins. Do a search, this has been covered multiple times.

Sure they are tight but a large gear puller and a bit of strength or impact wrench and your done. See my picture, and yes the engine encountered serious failure.

Best Regards,

Alex

I used a cheap(ish) puller but only after leaving the whole assembly in the freezer (Icebox) for an hour... It popped off relatively easily then.
Good Luck.

Talking Sprockets Replaced....NEXT!!!

Chris,Alex,dtw,

Took shaft to work, used pcs. of 1/4"x1" angle to support sprockets,50 ton press......Came loose after a bit of pressure was applied.Don't think a puller, even a BIG one, would have done the job without damaging end of the shaft.Once they popped loose, came right off.

On to the next step.......DAMN,more cleaning!

Thanks All,

Chris

First time I did one in a press, the sound of the sprocket letting go sounded like a handgun going off. I tucked and rolled! Great fun, glad that worked out for you.

POP goes the sprocket!!!!!!

dtw,

Yeah,it did make a pretty good POP when it let loose.I was kinda worried with the amount of force it took to get to come loose, but everything is just fine.

Stevepaa, still cleaning engine parts and such, haven't even gotten to the engine compartment yet!
