All info says to use black rtv on case thru-bolts@ o-rings.I can't seem to find this.I admit I haven't looked very hard, but the question is....I found "Loctite Superflex Red High Temp RTV" #59630.We use this on pipe flanges & other high temp/pressure applications @ work.It is a silicone adhesive sealant, listed up to 600deg.F.Would this be an ok substitute for the black stuff? What is the rating for the black?
Any thoughts?(dumb ?) ![]() Thanks,getting ready for assembly.... ![]() Chris

Yup, it will work just fine as long as it is oil resistant which I believe it is.
The O-rings are supposed to do the sealing, the RTV just helps out a little. BTW, I would be surprised if a FLAPS exists that doesn't have black RTV. That stuff is everywhere around So Cal, maybe that is due to the type of maintenance routinely performed by some folks who live here ![]() They had to put up signs in the pep boys parking lot telling people not to change their oil or drain it on the ground in the parking lot, in english and spanish! I find that amusing and disturbing at the same time. The super blue will work fine also but might not be as visually apealing. |

Thanks Sammyg2,
I haven't really looked for the black rtv,the red was available @ work=free! BTW,I know what you mean about the stuff people do in the parking lots of parts stores! It gets a little nasty in some. Can't even get out of your car without stepping in someones mess. Looks like an outdoor swapmeet sometimes! They just don't care about anything......SAD! Chris

just a note
i found that loctite split and some of the pruducts that they used to sell are no longer available. I know that in the few manuels i have they sight part numbers for loctite pruducts that are no longer. This is the main reason i switched to the permitex anerobic gasket maker. like i stated in earlier posts it has worked great for everything i have used it on they even have a spary that is used to prep the surfaces to be sealed. I have used it both ways with and without. it seams as long as your surface is clean and free of oil and other crap it works great. |

Permatex Item No 51813 (emphasis added) On the back it reads: Manufactured by Loctite Corporation And you're right, it does work great. I just use ThreeBond instead these days. -Chris P.S. Anyone know if the Audi transmission sealant is repackaged 3Bond 1211? Sure looks like it.
