piston squirter pictures

I just got a 7R case and was looking at the piston squirters. It looks as though they may have been changed at some point in the life of the case. Some are recessed 2-3 mm and one is 2-3mm above the surface. The area surrounding the squirters has been peened over in some areas and some metal has actually been chipped away. Does anyone have any pics of properly installed squirters? I want to replace them during the rebuild and I am afraid some of the surrounding areas will break off leaving little "meat " left. My understanding is that they are an interference fit and are installed with loctite? Am I correct?

Steve

The metal of the case is also dented ("staked") around the hole to keep the squirter from coming out.

Aluminum cases have dimples, mag cases do not have dimples from the factory.
Aluminum

Magnesium

Henry,

Thanks for the pics! The case I have (7R) was dimpled and in the process some of the magnesium was chipped off in different areas. It generally looks like they were improperly installed. Most are below flush but some squirters are above the surface by a few mm and some are even installed crooked. Any thoughts?

I am going to pm you on a future project though....thanks for the help as always!

Regards
