7.5 to 1 and .8 boost will work with 93 pump gas. 8.0 to 1 and 1 bar WILL NOT. To run this much compression and boost one or more other upgrades have to be made - larger intercooler, fuel enrichment, twin plug, knock sensors. There are examples on this board where 8.0 to 1 and 1 bar ran less than 100 miles before the pistons and rings were trashed. RUF recommends a max of .8 boost with their 7.5 to 1 pistons.

KobaltBlau 10-25-2005 08:18 AM

I was referring to .8/8.0:1 and 1/7.5:1 single plug but I was making the assumption that he had an upgraded intercooler, which he may not.

WinRice 10-25-2005 03:34 PM

He has the C2 Intercooler, which is quite a bit better than the typical 78-89 3.3L unit.

In addition to what vichang4 mentioned, climate also plays a part in the safe boost level.

7.5:1 CR, 0.8 bar, 105 degree day sitting in traffic with the A/C blasting, high oil temp and heat soaking by the minute. Get that sudden opening on the highway and let it rip, you might get some detonation.

On the other hand, 8:1 CR, 1.0 bar, nice cold 32 degree day, would probably not detonate at all.

You can also run more boost safely at higher altitudes, all other factors being equal.

That's the advantage of having adjustable boost, and knowing how to use it wisely;)

Out of interest, more that anything else, does anyone make automaticaly electronically adjustable boost based on ambient air temp or inlet air temp?

Henry Schmidt 10-25-2005 04:04 PM

The assembly has begun.

throttle cable for C2 turbo

The motor is done. The brakes are done (rebuilt and epoxy painted red). We have been waiting for a throttle cable that had to come from Germany. Well it finally arrived and the Black Bastard should be on the streets in the next week or so. I can't wait to drive. I will post more pics as I get them. When I get the car I will post a ton of pics.

CBRacerX 12-12-2005 07:26 PM

Good luck!

Infrared, let me know when you have the car in town and let's get together for coffe or something.

twin plugs

i.c., damn, you ask more questions than i do, only kidding! i have been told that due to the design of the combustion chambers leaving a ridge (high spot) in the chamber center the firing was "hot" on the plug side and weak on the opposite side, hence, plugs on each side of the pistons.
i think that you said you had a turbo? i have a '91, c4, awd drive , normally aspirated (non turbo). i am having it converted to a 3.8 , twin turbo, expensive but "you only go around once". i have tried numerous boltons, ie. headers, mufflers, chips, intake systems, etc. and from where i sit they are mostly bulls***! yes, some power increase but usually more noise increase. please take it from
one that has been there, when the engine is out of the car, add everything that you can afford (depending on the level of
-performance that you seek), it will never be cheaper!
also, if you are going turbo, they are entirely streetable, you don't know that the turbo(s) are there untill you "put your foot in it". my builder has assured me of 700+ hp on the ground, with proven dyno sheets, which i will witness (stage4+) should there be unbelievers on this site (i don't think so), i will post dyno results. sorry guys for the lengthy response, but believe me, i have been there! great site, thanks for allowing me to be a part of it! tjn/vettekiller

Thanks TJN. The ride is almost done now so any mods are already in the bag. I think it will be perfect for me. I hope to pick it up within the week. Lots of photos to come.

The car is back in Vegas. Nice 300 mile trip. I am extremely happy with the result. The car is fast and smooth. Goes quick, stops even quicker and starts every time.

I am pleased to report that my initial impression of Henry at Supertec was spot on. I sent him my car to work on without ever meeting him in person. I never saw him until the day I picked it up. Not only do I think he did a perfect job on the engine but I found him to be a true stand up kind of guy. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a Porsche engine re-builder without any reservations. Really, it is rare to find someone in the auto business that does work approaching perfection and maintains a high standard of honorable and ethical practices. Artisan, craftsman and gentleman. Enough of the gushing praise.

I am now working on the look of the car. I have some pics that I will post soon of the finished product stuffed into the car. I am also looking for a dyno out here in Vegas so I can post some numbers for all who are interested (I know I am). If anyone knows of a shop in Las Vegas, NV that can do the Dyno test for me please post a reply.

jriera 12-21-2005 07:07 PM

Silverstate Motorsports 644-8756.

Let me know when do you plan to go there, I may want to do a couple of runs and adjustments

Infrared Camera 12-22-2005 07:07 AM

Jordi,
Where is silver state? Are they in Henderson? I am sure you have heard of Premiere Sports Car Service and of course Carls Place. What do you think of these guys? Lets Ride!

Porsche Turbo Dyno

One more question for all. Should I wait until after the breakin period (about 1000 miles) before I put the car on the Dyno? I have never done a Dyno test and don't really know the procedure but I assume it involves some redline activity. Should I wait for 1000 miles and go after the valve adjustment? The car is fast and I am happy with it. Henry did a phenomenal job. Still I want to know the numbers.
