combination 2.4t/2.2s/2.0s/

Could any one help mi?
I have three engines 2.4 T/2.2 S/2.0 S
If I get the 2.4t increase to 2.7l (boring out the crankcase to and heads to 97 mm)can I put the heads, cams, time chains, etc
from the 2.2S engine?
If so what would be the horsepower out put?
i will use a 40mm webers.

Do a search on 2.4t and you'll find LOTS of discussion on this topic. if you want to search via username use my name or dtw.

That being said I'll guess 190-200 or so if you take the 2.4 case and crank, add the 2.2S cylinders, pistons, heads and cams to it. sell the 2.0S to an early racer for your parts/machineshop bill (at least it'll help a bit)

Or if you want to plunk down the $1900 for RS pistons and cylinders, combined with the 2.2S heads and cams you'll end up with a nice 200-210 hp motor.

I agree with Tim. You'll wind up with what is essentially a carb'd 2.7 RS style engine, and you'll make something like 2.7 RSish HP. I have a friend with a similar motor and it goes great and sounds awesome. It doesn't get great mileage though because of the carbs.

Hello there.

You realise you have two rather valuable motors there?

Either of them will be worth much more than a hot-rod motor.

If you want to hot rod, the 2.4 is a decent base, just add Modified S cams from Cam grinder and JE 85mm pistons, rejet and you will see over 200 HP.
The special parts ( I'm assuming your rebuilding the rest anyway) will run 1500 or less, and you still have two motors to sell for anything from 1500 each upwards to 5K or even more if really good..

the 90mm 2.7 pistons and barrels need case and head machining, and ruin a pertfectly good case..core 2.7' motors are cheaper than core 2.4's..round here anyway..

Kind regards
David

Doesn't the 2.4T have cast iron cylinders? Not really worth dropping JEs into those, eh? They'll probably heat soak.

Hello, Kenik.

On the contrary, I greatly prefer thesolid iron cylinders to Biral for boring.

Biral does not stay cylindrical at all..if the cylider temperature is slightly higher (and I'm not convinced it is, given the extra friction from the distorted bores), the forged pistons will handle it admirably..which is why we use them of course..

I have feeling that CN may have some data to support this view about Birals..

Kind regards
David
