what is the current hot set-up for a 3.0l motor

i have a 3.0l motor that has to be rebuilt.
it currnently has 964 cams, b&b/tri-flow, but still has the cis.
it cam with a dyno sheet that said 245 flywheel hp.
what else can be done to get RELIABLE hp. from this motor?
pmo's?, higher comp ratio?, what else?

P/C's to bump the bore from 95 to 98 (slip fit) or 100mm or larger (requires machining of the case). Upgrade the studs while you have the cylinders off to Supertecs, ARPs, or Performance Development's 911 studs. Replace the rod bolts with ARPs too (or replace the rods). Twin plugging the engine and bumping up the compression to something a little healthier, say 10.5:1 would also be very noticable. I personally would keep the CIS over carbs and if I needed more adjustability, I would go for an aftermarket controller (I like SDS) and IR throttle bodies (I use TWM's). I'm sure there are many other options for you too.

I just recently completed the rebuild of a 3.0 SC for my RSR clone. I wanted to keep the original displacement and get as much reliable HP as possible and still run on pump gas.

I bumped the CR to 10.5:1 using new Mahle RSR pistons and cylinders. The engine is twin plugged with the original dizzy modified for twin plug. The cams are GE-60 style from Camgrinder and I am using the 46mm PMO's. Exhaust is RSR style headers.

The engine dyno'd at 250 hp at the axles (285 flywheel) at 7500 RPM. The throttle response is unreal and the driveability is great around town.

Those are some very impressive numbers. What year SC did you start with as a base and did you do much to the heads? Is the valvetrain still stock?

How far are you willing to go?

Displacement is always King...

Failing that, early heads for flow, bump in compression (octane depending), better pistons and cylinders will allow more agressive cams, but will necessitate an induction system other than CIS.

I'm getting 275HP at the crank on my 3.0L, revving to 7500 and it's got over 4 race seasons on it reliably... Carbuerated...
