What Oil (oh no not again!)

Hi Guys
Happy Christmas and best for 2006 from down under!

Back to the serious stuff! I know oil has been done to death on these forums and I have read many of the earlier postings.
But........I am still none the wiser as what I should do!

My engine has just undergone a full rebuild by an excellent and trusted mechanic (Jon Warring at Rennsport in NZ). Car runs really well now and is perfect apart from a smidgen of oil from each of the cam chain covers i.e. only enough for a spot on the garage floor if the car is stationary for a week (which is not that often).

I have full synthetic Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL 5-50W in the engine thinking that as it is "new" then a full synthetic oil would reduce wear longterm. I also thought (maybe naively) that the engine wouldn't leak - even though it is a 2.7 - and that the lighter weight oil would be OK!

The car is a daily driver and had only occasional track day use

Questions now are
1. Should I live with the leak as a trade off to better oil/less engine wear?
2. or should I change the oil and if what to.

Thanks
Andrew

I had my 3.2 rebuilt last year. My mechanic put Valvoline VR-1
20/50 in it for "break in" I put in Redline 20/50 after abut 1,500
miles. I might suggest you go to a heaver weight oil, say a
10/40 and see what happens. Any brand name oil will be a good
oil, do a search here for recommended oils, I am extremely
anal and use Redline, there are other oils that will do just fine.
I also think you might have your mechanic take a look at
the covers... you should not have a leak there, now !
That is just my uneducated opinion.
Good Luck
Chuck

If I had my engine rebuilt and it leaked oil, I would blame it on the rebuilder and not the oil. Have them fix the leaks and then run whatever oil you want.
I would not change the type of oil to try and cover up a leak on a freshly rebuilt engine.

BTW, I rebuilt my engine last year and although it was my first 911 engine, it does not leak a drop of oil (knock on wood) and I run fully synthetic because of the turbo. If I can rebuild one and have it leak-free anyone should be able to
