how to install pistons correctly
I am at the point of putting my pistons back in. I want to make sure they are not upside down. wayns book tells you to look at the domes for the valve notches. But this motor is a 3.3 turbo with flat topped pistons. the carb cleaner i soaked thenm in removed the makrkings i placed on them when i removed them. wayne can you help?

Look for an "E" on the top of the piston. This should go near the Intake. See this thread:

sorry no E on the piston tops. there is a + stamped on the piston dome but i think that actually goes down.

oh and the top is completely flat no notches or anything, checked the thread that you mentioned it looks like none of the ones pictured.

On a flat top piston that does not have an off set wrist pin the piston can be installed either way.
If it has an off set wrist pin there should be a marking on the dome that looks like a crank shaft with a flywheel installed. The illustration shows the correct installation. If there's no marking you can check the pin for off set by using a caliper to check the pin location.

ok i got it figured out thanks!!!!!oh one more thing while were talking hor did you get your parts so shiney i noticed in several pics posted of engines you assembled looked really nice, you had commented that you put the parts in the dishwasher, well i did that they came out really clean but not any more shiney.

AND? ok so did you hot tank the parts first then use a flapper wheel and a die grinder? bead blast every thing?
