Good post!
I see that you are estimating $800 to clean and micropolish the crank. Unless you are actually have the plugs removed to clean the crank, that seems excessive.

No, I do not plan to remove the plugs, just polish it up. I was also allowing time to have it measured and checked. I am sure I will use the $$$ if I am high somewhere else...

I checked my records; a year ago I had a 964 crank crack checked and micropolish for $135. That should help out the budget considerably!

If you are taking it to High performance, THey will measure and polish and final clean for less that 100 if I remember correctly.

Cheers

Thanks Jeff, that is where I think I am taking it at the moment. I am wavering a little bit...use a shop like High Performance whch do other types engines as well or ship it down to the US to a shop what does only 911's. I guess that High Performance is not a 911 specialist should not worry me since they have done a fair bit of 911 work. Everthing looks OK so far (the case will be split tonight) so the work is not that complicated.

Cheers,

Mike

I would R&R the oil line plugs. I have seen the plugs drilled out on many 911 crankshafts and there is always junk at the end of the oil line. Armando at CCR does this type of work , and he can also magnaflux inspect and polish. CCR 650-342-0568

Thanks John,

I did a search for Armando and found:

Armando Link

Has it changed since this thread in August 2004?

Cheers,

Mike

I think he is much better now. He did an antique crank for a freind of mine, and it was done on time and for the price quoted. I know the problems he had with Erik were resolved and Erik recieved his crank.
German Precision (408) 747-0728 and Ollies also do the oil plug work.
