Are these cylinders junk?
I have 3x 95mm nikasil cylinders that I believe are junk. They all have a 'chunk' out of the lower edge from some debris in the engine - ie a broken piston from another cylinder
![]() Anyway - these are junk right? I just want to make sure before they make a loud noise in the garbage bin. Regards, Andrew M ![]() ![]()

If you grind that area smooth I think you can still use them. The rings never get thet close to the chipped area so you should be OK. Please don't flame me for this GUYS

cylinder?
The damage shown on the bottom side of your cylinder is not an issue. The rings come down only as far as the where that dark ring starts.

I might add that you'll want to check to make sure they weren't banged out of round when they got wacked.

If they're still round, I'd just clean up the nick and put them back into service.

Why don't you take them down to Ollies and get them moon cut? Apparently you have to watch on Nikasil because it can start to chip off (or so I am told). If the moons will not be where the chips are I am sure that they can take a bit off the bottom anyways to get rid of the rough edge.
Cheers, Mike

They should be fine but have them checked. It is not uncommon to relief cut the bottom for better windage. What caused the nick?
