Looks great! I'm starting final assembly on mine today! Got all my parts back yesterday from Neil Harvey of Performance Developments! I can't wait!

porschett 03-18-2006 12:57 PM

Final installation pic. Started up with no problems. Smooth as a baby bottom. Had a little tick-clack-clack...turned out I forgot to torque down one of the header bolts. Whew

Special thanks to:

Henry Schmidt of Supertec for his guidance on sealing the case and that all important number 8 bearing. I used 4 different sealants/lubicants just for the case alone. No leaks!!!

Wayne's book. No way I could have done this w/o it

Pelican forums. Kept referring back to this site for Q&As

Brian Leask for helping me with the engine installation, tuning the fuel system and building me a fully adjustable WUR.

Beautiful! Good job, I can't wait to finigh my 3.2 Carrera complete rebuild! I have the same exhaust, brand new, let me know how it sounds.

Took it out for a drive. crazy...boost builds up FAST. Haven't done any WOT runs, but around 2800, it's already at .5 bar. Around 3100, it's .8 bar.

The Borlas are deep and throaty. Can't wait to hear them at WOT.

The surrounding environment is hotter though. I guess the headers w/o the heat exchangers really heats things up. I notice my bumpers are much hotter also. Could it be that the Borlas are thinner and have less baffle? I may have to modify the bumpers by drilling ventilation ports and covering those with mesh.

I'm getting 14.5-14.7 AFR at idle. When boosts build, it goes down to 13.5ish. At one point, I reached .8 and it looked like I got around 12.5. So Brian Leak's adjustable WUR really did the job.

Excellent work!!! That is a beautiful engine. I'm in the final stages on my 930 build, too. I'm using the same intercooler, cams, a K27-7200 and megasquirt for ignition/fueling. It was nice to see a similar looking engine and to hear that it runs well!

Let us know how the dyno goes.

The engine looks great, nice job on the details. Life sure is much easier with an LM1, especially for us turbo guys:)

iamchappy 03-18-2006 05:53 PM

Im just curious why you didn't twin plug your engine. I am in the process of rebuilding and I am on the fence with twin plugging it.

klein930 03-18-2006 07:10 PM

Nice job Hope mine comes out that nice.

porschett:
Wouldn't the engine sound better without the Borla and just run a "J" pipe straight out of the turbo; imagine the flames (may also run cooler bumpers).
j.p.

That's what I'm doing! Mine is sitting on the workbech just begging to be installed on my turbo!

You mean a Zork tube? Yeah, I was pondering on that too. I haven't heard one live except the for the vid on fabspeed's site. I like the sound, but don't know if it'll be too loud. I have a buddy that's going to try and I'll wait for that.

I didn't twin plug cause the bang-for-the-buck factor wasn't there for me.

Henry Schmidt 03-19-2006 06:48 AM

Great looking engine. Nice job

One thought, the intercooler braces you attached to the sheet metal will fail very quickly.
A better idea might be to attach them to the engine mount (cross brace) using a vibration isolator so that failure do to cooler vibration will be reduced.
Angling the braces towards the center will help to prevent side to side movement as well.

iamchappy 03-19-2006 10:40 AM

I have been considering the twin plug not so much as a performance enhancement, but more as extra safety precaution against pre detonation.

I sent Henry my distributor for the conversion. I realize that it may
be overkill but like the reassurance that i've taken the necessary steps to keep it all together.

Your engine looks beautiful, job well done.

porschett 03-19-2006 05:21 PM

Yes, preventing predetonation is a good precaution and if I had extra the funds during the rebuild, I would have gone down that route. But I figure with the fully adjustable WUR, my LM-1, full bay IC, and mixing 100 octane hopefully will all but eliminate predet.

Thanks guys for all the comments.

In response for a request of a bigger pic of engine bay...

Looks fantastic...job well done.

diabolos88 03-21-2006 06:35 PM

porschett ,
looks like you can eat off that IC, wow beautiful, by chance, is that original paint? nice incredibly deep gloss you got there:)

porschett 03-23-2006 07:53 PM

Thanks diabolos, Haven't done anything to the paint. Just used clay bar on it once. Kept it up with teflon and light dusting after a drive.

diabolos88 03-26-2006 09:26 PM

how is it driving? do you like the difference in power now as compared to before? How do the headers and muffler sound? I'm curious to know what the exhaust setup you went with sounds like as I myself am in the market for headers/muffler. Can you post a mp3 for us?
