Cam Timing

I have just finished the cam timing process and I want to double check that I did it correctly. Is it correct that the cam dots on both the left and right cam should be both facing the same direction at the same time? And am I correct in thinking that the opening measurement at TDC (5.2mm) should alternate between crank revolutions (e.g., first revolution #1 cyc. opens, second revolution #4 opens, third revolution #1 opens again). Thanks in advance.

Don

Don,
You got it. Sounds like a hot cam.

Can I get more bottom end power by advancing the cam somewhat?

Depends on the camshaft profile and a lot of other parameters. If you want, list the engine size and modifications, and I can give you my opinion.

Hey Don, what kind of engine are you making, and what type of cams are in it.

Gutten tag!
Its nothing fancy. I am just rebuilding the top end of my 69S. It got an S cam which is kind of peaky and I thought I could give more bottom end power while its out. I have rebuilt the tranny, resealed the interface bewteen case and chainbox, camtowers and heads, put in updated the chain tensioners and idler arms, dressed up the engine and engine compartment, put on 2 Weber 40mm IDA 3C, etc. Next winter I will do the bottom of the motor including the case, crank, etc and if I can afford it maybe upgrade to 2.2 from the current 2.0.
