				New Head Studs - Corrosion?

I just received new steel head studs for my rebuild of a 1983 911 SC. I decided to replace all 24 studs. When i removed them from the packaging last night, it looks like about 1/3 are showing signs of corrosion. At lest it looks like it. The darkened areas in the photo are slightly raised and rougher than the dull graphite color. 2/3s of the studs of a uniform dull gray. They're not really bad but the new one's don't look much better than the steel studs that i removed. The studs are from Porsche. Anyone know if this is the nature of steel studs or did I get a bad batch. I would guess that it will not adversely affect the strength, but it just seems like a new stud should look new? Anyone with thoughts or experience? Rick | ||

The 993 steel had studs (993.101.172.02) that I get always have "dry" red Loctite on the threads that go in the case. The 993 steel head studs are only $9.28ea from Pelican - the cheapest Porsche head stud. -Chris
