VC removal issue on B&B exhaust 965???

I'm doing the valve adjustment on my '91 965 right now. This is the first time since I rebuilt the motor AND since I installed the B&B turbo headers/exhaust.

Right now I cannot remove the lower left side valve cover as the cover itself comes in contact with the external wastegate flange on the header before the valve cover can completly slide off the studs in the camshaft housing?!?!? I would never have expected this from B&B but I seriously need another 3-4mm of VC "travel" before it will slide off the studs. This is with the wastegate removed as well. Exhaust was purchased used but in excellent condition from one of my customers.

Is there anyone else here with the B&B exhaust on their 965 that ran into this problem? I'm not worried about getting the cover off as I'll work around things, even if I have to cut and TIG the wastegate flange in a better orientation. Just wondering if this was a recurring problem or just a fluke thing.

Thanks.

We see this issue all the time and the fix is to machine the fins on the valve cover to produce the clearence you need.
It's only neccessary to machine about 4 inches of the valve cover. We see this enough that we machine all left side lower valve covers that are intended for use on turbo engine.

So you just drop it in the bridgeport and mill off a section of the fins in the lower right corner(looking face on at the VC) and it solves the problem? Sounds good to me. I did get it off after dropping the headers from the motor leaving the turbo suspended. I'll mill it down tomorrow, need some sleep right now.

I appreciate the information regarding this. Wish I had known about the problem during the build. Would have saved a few hours here. Live and learn right........

Thanks again,
