Wayne's rebuid book good for 964 application?

Just bought a 964 engine that I will rebuild is the rebuild book that goes up to 89 911 applicableto the 3.6L engine? the main differences I believe are the chain tensioners and intake, also the ommission of the engine mount oil cooler, are there other considerations or another book out there?

As Wayne pointed out 80-85% applicable, is there any supplement info available or newer publication available for the 964 rebuild or do you feel the original book is suuficient and accurate for my application,of course I hope to be able to ask for the assistance from this group from time to time, Thanks

You definitely should have the Technical Workshop manuals for the 964. Some have done the rebuild without it but they miss little things here and there, the engine book covers all the updates.

Cool.... I was asking myself this also and was also going to post this same Question.

Wayne.... I just got the book and a bunch of other parts, I must say that signing the books is a nice touch.

I'm doing a 964 rebuild w/Waynes book, the 964 spec book and the 993 factory manuals. I could not get my hands on the 964 factory manual. Waynes's book does handle most of the details.

Another 3.6->3.8 Rebuild Thread...

Wayne's book is great for the basics.
For specifics turn to the factory manuals or a professional who knows.
Beware of "The Experts" who think they know (1 or 2 engines under their belt) but don't actually work in the feild.

What Henry said. I have asked a lot of questions on the 964 specific issues, and gotten lots of answers. When someone like Henry chimes in, I listen hard!

The book clearly indicates that the devil is always in the details; so "80-85% applicable" seems "nice to have but not good enough"

I only had a limited page count, and I wanted to fully cover the 1965-89 engines. Maybe I'll do a 3.6 supplement someday...

I’ve been always considering buying your book. In fact, I believe you have done an excellent job. However, I would like to add a suggestion. Since it may cover let say 80% of 964 application, why don’t you make a new specific edition covering only what missed (the remaining 20%)?
Including special tips, techniques and updated technologies that can be used in 964 DIY rebuilding projects.

Shoaib
