edit: 3.2 re-install Won't start; no fuel signal from the DME

Thanks for the help, I'll add some pictures of the world's most roached-out SC ever to keep my posts alive.

Alright I have an '84 3.2 in an '81 SC. I just re-sealed the engine and am ready to start, but I think I have an electrical problem with the DME.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting spark because it will work the timing light, but no combustion in the engine.

I pulled plugs on both sides and neither show any signs of gas being in the combustion chamber (sight or smell). I'm not sure if enough gas comes out of the injectors to get on the plugs when turning the engine over, but I have turned it over quite a bit.

There is definately fuel in the rails, but I don't have a way to measure the pressure to know if it is adequate. The car has been running this configuration (3.2 motronic in an '81 SC) for 13 yeaars.

I pulled the 4-6 injectors and got some gas into the manifold in the process. When I cranked the car, it fired a couple of times which enforced my supposition that the spark was there and not the gas.

Am I missing anything obvious that would allow the spark to work, but not the injectors?

Where does the bundle of ground wires go in the engine compartment?

Why does my 915 have two reverse light switches?

There is a two-strand bundle that comes out where the starter wires go, but the plug is missing. It will just barely reach into the tunnel. Is it for the heater fan by any chance?

I have had the engine out of this car many, many times, but I have just barely worked on it in the past 5 or 6 years and forgot more than I thought I ever could. I like to have never gotten the alternator back in. Sorry to clog the board with stupid questions.

1. Intake manifold, between cylinders #1 & #2

2. You should have a reverse light and a speedometer sender. The wires that dun from the transmission go into the car, small hole next to the center tunnel.

The wiring harness from the engine connects to the reverse lights

If, for some reason, you do have two reverse lights, (I've heard of it but have never seen one) connect the wires to the one on the passenger side.

The two strand bundle is probably the speedo wires.

"Es geht nicht darum wie schnell man faehrt, sondern wie gut man schnell fahren kann. Ihr Brunnen der nutzlosen Porsche Information", translated to "It one does not go goes therefore like quickly, but rather quickly go can one like well. Your well of the useless Porsche information."

I believe that translates into many many hours of fun working on it.

Good luck. Get your camera and post your questions, and these guys are smart (its bound to rub off).

Regards,
