Cam Timing Brain Fart
I thought I'd share this with all the DIY follks. You pros out there will probably just shake your heads.
I'm ready to do the cam timing. Got everthing ready; specs, books, tools, plenty of time. I go slow and methodical. Check everything twice. I'm finishing the right side and my eye (and I swear I don't know why) is drawn to that little reminder on the face of the indicator that REMINDS you that each division is 0.01 mm. See foto. Whaaaaaaaaaaaa? I had just perfectly set the overlap to 1/100 of the intended value. Sat down, powered a beer, looked on the bright side. I mean if I had missed it, well that would be another story. ![]() ![]()

Very cool.
Now here's your buzz kill. ![]() Wait until you've done so many engine that you set it by eye and you're within specs and it doesn't even seem strange. On an early cam (big nut rather than bolt) you can set it by eye and go racing. You may leave something on the table but then again you may not even notice a difference. Congratulations on catching it.
