911 tranny problem

The car is stuck in reverse, shifter moves but when you let off the clutch the car stalls. Shifter is in the neutral position, let out the clutch car is locked in reverse. Rolls and starts with the clutch engaged. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Has the transmission ever been rebuilt?
There is a reverse gear lock out detent that is quite often miss aligned when being rebuilt by some one not well acquainted with these gear boxes. They can work for years without ever displaying these symptom. Then do it two or three times in a row. Unfortunately there is no way to get it out of reverse without pulling the nose cone.

What has happened is that while shifting out of reverse the shift rod came out of the reverse shift shaft before the detent could engage the shaft.
