engine sealants

what is the equivalent to Curil T ? Is it a hardening or non hardening sealant?
Also Loctite 574
Can't find anyone that sells these here.

I think pelican sells 574 I know I can get it if they can't pretty easily. Never used the curil T but I am sure mcmaster.com can get it

I used Curil T on my rebuild and as I recall it is non hardening...in any case it sure is sticky...I had to order from our host...I think some other place could get it but Wayne had it in stock - where I used it...on the chain case to cam tower...no leaks

I've used Loctite 518 and a Permatex aneorobic sealant with success. They are both a little thicker than 574 and are available at autoparts and hardware stores (Napa and Ace). If you read the labels it tells you the application of these sealants and you can judge for yourself. For the non hardening sealant I use Permatex non hardening sealant. You are correct in that Curil T is non hardening. I personally am happy with all these choices but if you have any doubts then you should order the stuff you want. Which engine do you have?

It's a 1983 3.0 SC. here in eastern canada nobody sells loctite 574 or curil T. I ordered 574 from Pelican with the kit, but cannot find Curil. Permatex has lots of sealants both hardening and not. They have an aviation sealant that is red and sticky, I find it useful for many paper gaskets. They also have an anarobic flange sealant but it doesn't specify its properties. I'm looking for recommendations in place of curil T.

I've worked with Curil-T on a rebuild and found it tough to work with. The stuff is non-hardening but pretty gooey. Maybe its me but it got all over everything. But it worked fine. No leaks. I use dit on the cylinder base gaskets.

curil t, hmmm, wouldn't use it on much, certainly not case halves. 574 is on my szhittlist too. been using dirko with no problem. yamabond is popular.

Curil T is a non hardening sealant that performs extreamly well under high heat, low pressure situations. It is certified for use in high speed turbines and nuclear reactors so it does what it is designed to do.

We use it where two parts come together but tend to be unstable. The perfect example is the cylinder base. Because of differing expansion rates the cylinder will constantly move against the case. There is no pressure there so Curil T is perfect.
