reusing alusil cylinders
Is it correct that alusil is not a plating. If so couldn't I just over bore the cylinders I have and have pistons made. I know this isn't the norm and the mahle p/c's are preferred but cost would be greatly reduced. If I'm wrong and the surface left is not acceptable then is there someone the sleeves cylinders reasonably. I know I'm trying to reinvent the wheel but it's my nature.

Techincally you are correct. You would have to re-etch the cylinders and restore them to the correct finish for the bore and then the new pistons would have to be plated (like a ferrous coating), as you can't run a bare aluminum piston in an alusil bore. At the end of the day, there are cheaper and proven solutions. New cylinders or nikasil plating your existing cylinders are two such possibilities. There is a great thread about reconditioning alusil cylinders - just do a search for it.
