Good engine, bad engine

three days later, new owner called, engine not running right, checked compression, cylinder number 6 only at 30 PSI. How can that be???? thanks, Harold

Any chance it's just a bit of carbon under a valve seat?

Have you verified the compression number? What prompted the new owner to do the compression test in the first place??
Could be abuse like stated above, or plain bad luck, or buyer's remorse maybe?? Cheers

Sorry to hear about that but on the bright side, it's nice to kow you have the integrity to take a car back even when it isn't your fault.

I have to agree with Chris Bennet.
I'm no expert but....I pulled my engine this summer to clean and re-seal after power washing a piece of carbon blocked the exhaust valve after having it back together. I took it to my mechanic and he tapped the rocker with a rubber mallet to dislodge carbon. I have had no problems since. I know this a temporary situation and I am planning a full teardown to clean carbon. Dave

Now the car is back from New York.
Upon opening the engine compartment, I could see immediately that the mixture screws on number 3 and 6 where turned out so much that you actually saw the difference between those and the other 4. After cleaning the plugs and adjusting number 3 and number 6 carburettor, I went for a 10 miles test drive. As I suspected, there are no engine problems at all. I also never got "THE LIST" from the shop in New York who "found" all kinds of problems with the car and engine. At the end it was a case of buyers remorse and the shop probably needed work. In any case, I get to enjoy the car till I find a worthy owner. harold
