'67S Chain tensioner stuck on engine, removal methods?

I am upgrading the original 901 tensioners on my long-stored '67 911S to 930 tensioners with guards. 101 projects says that the tensioners should just slide off when the 13mm nut is removed. The right side slid right off, but the left one won't budge. Any special methods for removing it? I tried pushing the tensioning sprocket to take the pressure off the tensioner, which caused the hydraulic cylinder to rise, but it still wont move at all.

Thanks for any ideas.

I believe they are all pretty much the same with respect to the older cars. I did my 81SC. I recall one was stuck as well. Just yank on it. I think I used some big needle nose pliers that had a 90 degree bend in them. I used them for a little leverage. I somehow had the curved part of the pliers on the back of the chain housing. I don't think you can hurt anything. As long as the force is coming straight out. You don't want to bend the rod that the tensioner slides down on.

Sinceyou want to be careful and not let the tension on the chain off too much you might want to use vice grips (wrap in duct tape) and clamp the chain up against the top of the timing chain box on the left...then do as James suggests and leverage the tensioner off...I would check the shaft closely after you get it off and make sure it isn't scored/galled
