Removing wrist pin BUSHINGS
OK, so I used the wrong word before.....
Hi, I'm writing for a friend an an 80 euro SC doing a top end rebuild. He doesn't want to split the case and would like to press out the wrist pin bushings while the connecting rods are still attached to the crank. The pistons are removed. He's tried a simple press (think C-Clamp or threaded rod with sockets as a press) but they're not moving. Any ideas? Can you do this without taking them out to a real press? Thanks, Glenn

You can take the rods out without splitting the case....

I custom made a tool that fit perfectly into the wrist pin and allowed enough clearance to press on the bushing and still push all the way through. I had to use a hefty arbor press; a vise alone is not enough. You will need an extension bar as well to help push the bushing tool through, all of mine made a large sound once they loosened up. Go slow and don't get too frustrated and end up damaging them.

Thanks guys! It looks possible but not easy.
Catca - that's what I told him but he didn't want to replace rod bolts. They were recently done. Alex - thanks. I'll tell him to use more force (arbor press) and to just have more patience. Thanks a lot. love your tag line! Glenn

How are you going to machine the bushings ?
