Engine case question
Are the USA '76 - '79 Turbo engine cases the same as the '76 - '77 Euro Carrera engine cases?
I suspect they are the same, but need to know for an engine project. Also, who makes 86mm pistons and cylinders? Thanks, |

Only the 3 litre turbo cases are the same. The 3.3 is the same as a 3.2 Carrera case. I'm not sure what year the 3 litre turbos were but I think it was only 76-77.

Thanks Eagledriver,
Are you saying the 3.3 Turbo and 3.2 Carrera are the same? Also, by your name, do you fly F15? I work at Boeing and have worked the MSIP, E, STOL, and now trainers. |

I am saying that the 3.3 turbo and the 3.2 Carrera are the same case. Don't know why Klaucke thinks they're not. Maybe he could elaborate. The case for the 3.0 turbo fits the early 6 bolt flywheel crankshaft like the 2.4/2.7 had. This is also the case that was on the 3.0 Carrera (76-77).
When Porsche made the 3.3 turbo they used a 9 bolt flywheel crankshaft like on the SC but with a longer stroke (like the 3.2). They then used this case and crank to create the 3.2 Carrera. I used to fly F-15C's but I'm retired from the Air Force now. I flew the sim out there at the factory for some MSIP training in the 80's. -Andy

From what I can find and the responses here, it looks like the 3.0 USA and Euro Turbo engine cases are the same, and the 3.2 and 3.3 engine cases are the same.
Andy, We still have the dome sims at Boeing for checking out aircraft software/hardware, but several bases in the field are going to networked trainers with 360 visuals. These trainers look and feel like the real jet, and the structures take up the space of a two car garage. All using off-the-shelf computers. They are networked across the world so others can join in and play the game. Just like on-line computer gaming. http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/support/training/index.html |
