oh heck, what is this

So I'm finishing up my top end, (I'm installing the side tin right now..)
And I'm looking through some old boxes to throw them out. The box that had my heads in them from the shop also have this hiding under a corner..

size measure:

so, it's some sort of ring or shim.. it's dirty as hell (unlike my beautiful heads, AND this was not the box that I delivered my heads to the shop in..
So... on a bone stock 3.2 is there anything head related that this could be, or its this just an old piston ring from a small block that just decided to scare me?
I don't recall seeing anything like this on the heads in dissambly, but they were carboned pretty bad.. Also I couldn't see a defacto answer from other posts.

part of a multi piece oil control ring most likely. not from your car with a 4" bore.
