Piston to case clearance issues!
A friend, at my suggestion, is rebuilding a 2.2T with the longer stroke and higher compression piston. On the surface all seems well but as he put the pistons on the rods it has become apparent that there is a clearance issue when you rotate the crank the piston bottom juuuuussst bottoms out on the case by the piston squirters ect. I've also noticed that there is a 1-2mm rim around the bottom of the piston that looks ripe for the machining (off)!!. Lets have some suggestions fellas cuz we need help and the case is all sealed up, would prefer not to go in there again.
Cheers, Nabil p.s. the case is a the stock 3R '70 T and the pistons are stock 2.2S's and the crank is a 2.4L 70.4mm stoke.

This problem is mentioned in Bruce Andersons book. The fix is to have the case machined to fit the new pistons. I know you don't want to hear that but thats the proper fix. Your method may work but you do so at your peril. The pistons may rock more than they should and could wear much faster or the rings may never seat.

Thanks for the response Andy, your right, probably not what I wanted to hear but those are the hard knocks sometimes. The suspense of no responses was probably more agonizing than anything. I'll look it up in the Bruce Bible.
Thanks again Andy Anyone else wanna chime in? Nabil

I've shortened skirts several times over the years, usually only 1-2mm is required. I've never had an issue, just make sure a good shop does the work so they are even and rebalanced. Good luck.
