thanks Bill. Please explain more on your reply.
1. why is a 3.6 that is lightly modded not as robust in a 915 body or trans? (I am confused on this one) 2. please provide more details as to the specifics of your lightly modded list AND/OR in order to do these you must/need to/should do xyz items. 3. any idea of the rwhp here using a 915 trans? ...this sounds like something you may of done in your past...;-) Thanks Bill! Bob (ps this tub will have the 930 OE floating rotor brake system and 930 m/c for haulin' her back to reality that you helped me earlier spec out a yr ago!)

Bob
I was agreeing with you and Boba that a 3.6L with mild tuning is a much cheaper alternative to building a hot rod engine starting from a 3.0 case. I also think that the HP gap between the 2 will be very narrow. So I was wondering wether $15k were worth the extra 50hp (if that) that the hot rod engine would give you. The 3.8 P&C comment was based on the fact that since you are looking at building a motor from the case up I would also consider using a 964 case and putting in 3.8 or 3.9 P&C. Yes the case will be a little more exp than a 3.0 but.... as they say there is no replacement for displacement and all the other components are the same... In all this remember that for a street motor (i.e. something you can use with 93 octane gas and that will idle) it would be difficult to get close to 390HP. |

The 915 transmission is not as strong as a G50.
Take a look at this website, lots of infos on 3.6, 3.6 swaps and 3.8 builds... with costs. www.instant-g.com |

911tweaks,
The responses are right along the lines I was thinking as well. You can purchase a low miles 3.6? Or already rebuilt? Start with that, chipped, exhaust , you could go with a 915 as long as its a 8:31 R&P, in a 2300ish pound car. I would think 300hp in a 3.6 is way cheaper to attain than starting with a 3.0 or 3.2 and you'll have more torque as well which is what you'll feel off the line. |

My 993 weighs the same as the C3, and w/ 3.8RS engine and g50/30 cup trans is by far the most satisfying it does stuff on the track that a 911 t-bar chassis wouldn't dream of. As I posted above, a stock 3.6 is going to be more than most can use, rod bolts are a weak spot if the engine is revved into the 7K range, start there. SS or one of Doughertry DC series sport cams and headers w/ chip tuning is all you need to wake them up. Keep the gearing real w/ short(<=265) tires for street use
