Help I need a solid plan
At first it was a distributor and now CIS is not working...
I thought I wanted to do things super cheap... but then I wanted ITB and orderred carbs... I was just about to snap a 3.2 so I could have my car on the road and do a rebuild at the same time... but then I realized my "plan" wasn't completely formed. Due to a backlog I have one week where I can change my PMO Carb order... or perhaps even go Jenvey So here is the deal... I need a real plan. A complete plan. A realistic plan with a budget not exceeding 15k. The foundation: 1980 SC John Walker motor rebuild by PO 30K ago including: New stock Mahle P&C New stock Oil pump etc... SSI's and a Monty Elephant Racing Monoball suspension / strut brace 915 gear box with Wevo bits, short stack of gears, Gaurd LSD 8" and 9.5" welded fuchs with 225 and 245 tires Stock brakes with Turbo MC Various deletes down to 2600lbs wet The usage: Daily driver, wanna be track whore The requirements: "Rip your lips off" fun ITB Plan #1: Use current 3.0 as basis for build. Pros known quantity, trust the bottom end Twin plug heads Open ports High compression Mahle 98mm P&C’s 964 distributor Rowdy Cam Center mount oil cooler Boxster Calipers on Carrera Rotors (Anyone hace experience with the Pro four package?) Carbs Plan #2: Buy 3.2 Top End rebuild 964 cam or webcam 20/21 Carbs

Hi Matt:
You'll get plenty of opinions without a doubt,... ![]() ![]() The VERY first question I ask my clients when asking such questions is: "What is your budget? The answer to that question really defines what you will do and the end result.

Thanks Steve max permissible budget over a 3 month period is 15k. My domestic situation will be more pleasant if I can do this for less...

That being the case, I'd opt for your Plan #1 with the exception of the Boxster brakes on Carrera rotors.
Those have been quite unsuccessful for any track use. ![]()

I think number one will be better. A short stroke 3.2 lends itself to high RPM fun with carbs and cams. You'll be able to get lots of power that wouldn't be available with the 3.2 pistons on the Carrera engine. Several of our Toyo spec racers are using the boxter calipers on carrera rotors with success. Our cars only have about 240 HP though.

Thanks Andy. I have been working with Steve and have orderred parts to replace the CIS system with carbs and upgrade the brakes. Next step will be oil coolers.
The thinking is that I can get the induction, brakes, and cooling out of the way first as these are all essential and costly elements to address as part of my desired motor upgrade. Once I have recoverred financially I will be ready for my ideal motor. For all my reading I honestly still am not certain what I will want for a motor.

keep the progress going Matt! You are doing great.
It is best if you can have a plan of what you want the car to be in the end, OR, what you will do with it and how long you will keep the car. "The Slippery Slope" is always looming out there. Maybe you can sell your stock removed parts to help offset the new parts purchase?? just an idea if $$ is tight or budget breaking. Anyway, enjoy the adventure and always keep in mind that if the end result is not what you wanted, you can make further changes or sell it. ...everything we do in life has its risks and rewards! IF there is a PLAN/GOAL, the process/journey can usually be less $$$, not always though do to the "While I'am in there" thing that usually pops up. Have fun and post pics if you can! (we are following what you are going through as we did the same OR we are contemplating doing it) Best of luck! Bob
