3.0L Best performance / quietest dual output muffler

stock 1982 911SC 3.0 liter engine, I might be tearing into the engine for head stud issues so while it's out/apart I'm thinking of putting some SSI exhaust manifolds on it. Possible a 20/21 or 934 cam.

My rear valance already has dual exhaust cut outs in it, but my present stock muffler is a stock single exhaust (I believe).

I'm not looking for loud and obnoxious, and have also read up on the drone and noise level that dual output M&K's produce.

Is the drone a dual output charectoristic? I know twin prop airplane definately warble in and out of harmonic tone.

I'm thinking a Dansk might do the trick. The cat converter also has a crack in it so most likely that will get replaced by a straight pipe as I don't have emissions. I don't want a loud car alarm triggering race type exhaust, I'm 95% street use, and want to maximize power without the noise.

Is this too much to ask?

You are going to get some sort of drone regardless of the 2in/out muffler you choose. I have a M&K and have not issues as the drone is lower in the rpm range than where normal driving occurs. Do a search and you'll get lots of information.

If you put SSIs on you will get rid of the cat. From what I have read... generally, power and noise are related; the louder you are to more power you get I think M&K are louder than some of the other brands, but I have no direct experience here, just relaying what I have read here. duel outs tend to be louder than singles.

Every sport muffler I have ever had created some kind of resonance mid RPM. Just seems to be part of the nature of the beast.

You could go for the classic triple out muffler. 2 center pipes that are blocked off for street. The traditional single exit on the driver's side is open. At the track it is reversed.

Enjoy!

Rocky Heap - Triad or Dansk. The Triad is very quiet compared to others. The Dansk might be louder, but weighs about 5 lbs less than a stock 2/1.

Not all 2in/2outs drone. I have a 77 911 w/2.7 and SSIs that I've tried with about 6 different mufflers so far. (these were all 2in/2out) My Traid was a work of art and sounded great, but droned so bad it made me deaf. My M&K was alos a work of art and did not drone, sounded great, but was too loud for me. However, it did drone on the next car (SC w/3.0 engine) that it was installed on. My Dansk was not too loud and did not drone, but I didn't like the sound as much as 2in/1out. I'm currently trying out a 2in/2out "pea-shooter" sport muffler . Sounds good, not too loud and no drone, but it still does not sound as good as the 2in/1out, to my ear.

interesting how you say it did not drone on one car and did on another . that is our experience as well do to several things
gear ratio,CR,cams, timing this all plays into the exhaust note.

Oh and compared the dansk is probably the quietest the others are about the same as eachother. You can see that we are developing slide in baffles as well to work for everyone
